Federal Skilled Worker applications are assessed based on an applicant's ability to become economically established upon immigration to Canada. |

In order to qualify for a Canada Immigration (Permanent Resident) Visa, Canadian Federal Skilled Worker (Professional) applicants must: |

- Have at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the past 10 years in one of the specfied occupations or
- Qualify for Arranged Employment with a full-time permanent job offer from a Canadian employer; or
- Have completed a PhD in Canada, or have completed two years of study in Canada towards a PhD, in both cases at a recognized insitution

Education:

Points are awarded for earned educational credentials as well as the number of years of fulltime studies or fulltime equivalent studies. To be awarded points, you must meet both stated criteria. Failure to provide documentation that indicates the completion of the program of study AND the total number of years of the education, may affect the number of points you receive for Education.
Fulltime studies: This includes both secondary and post secondary education of at least 15 hours of instruction per week during the academic year. This includes any period of workplace training that forms part of the course.
Fulltime equivalent studies: If you completed a program of study (secondary or post-secondary) on a part‑time or accelerated basis, count the length of time it would have taken to complete the program on a fulltime basis. |

The ability to communicate and work in one or both of Canada's official languages is very important to you as a skilled worker. Proficiency in English, French or both will help you in the Canadian labour market. You must submit original language test results from a designated testing agency to the CIO with your application. Other evidence in writing will not be accepted as evidence of language proficiency.
You will be awarded up to 24 points for your basic, moderate or high proficiency in English and French. You will be given points based on your ability to:

You must meet the following minimum work experience requirements to be eligible to apply as a skilled worker: |

- You must have at least one year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time employment.
- Your work experience must be in an occupation of Skill Type 0, or Skill Level A or B of the Canadian National Occupation Classification (NOC).
- You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

Arranged Employment: |
| |
Arranged Employment is one of the fast-track options under the Federal Skilled Worker Category of immigration. |
| |
Arranged Employment is possible when a Canadian employer extends an offer of full-time permanent employment in Canada to a foreign skilled worker. The foreign skilled worker's Canadian Immigration (Permanent Resident) Visa will be expedited so that the worker can come to Canada and start working for the Canadian employer quickly.
Arranged Employment is one of ways to qualify for a Canada Permanent Resident Visa through the Federal Skilled Workercategory of immigration.
It also provides the Federal Skilled Worker applicant with up to an additional 10 points.

When you apply for Permanent Residency under Skilled Worker category,you must have enough money or liquid assets to support your family for an estimated period of six (6) months after you arrive in Canada. These funds cannot be borrowed from another person. You must provide documented evidence that you will have access to your money or liquid assets upon your arrival to Canada.

Canada to Accept 1000 Applications of PhD Students under Federal Skilled Worker category
Effective November 5, 2011, the Department of Immigration aims to accept up to 1,000 international PhD students each year, thus making it easier for foreign PhD students with 2 years completed PhD study to become Permanent Residents of Canada.
To be eligible to apply under the Fast Track Federal Skilled Worker category, students must have completed at least two years of study towards a PhD and remain in good academic standing at a provincially recognized post-secondary educational institution in Canada.
In addition, recent graduates from Canadian PhD programs will also be eligible, however, they ought to apply within 12 months of their graduation.
